The Saleen S7 Is Back

The S7 is back. Saleen Automotive just announced that it’s bringing back its original supercar in the form of the S7 Le Mans Edition. Just seven examples will be built, each with a price tag of $1 million.

“True to our form, we are bringing back America’s only true supercar,” said Steve Saleen in a statement. “We are celebrating our winning heritage and advancing the performance DNA that Saleen was built around.”

So what do you get for your million dollars? Well, you get a car built to commemorate the Saleen S7’s motorsport success around the world, equipped with a 7.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a six-speed manual transmission. The S7 LM’s chassis is a steel space frame while all its lightweight body panels are honeycomb composites.

But this is no stripped-out race car. Saleen touts that the S7 LM comes standard with convenience features like a tilt- and telescoping steering wheel, power windows and door locks, intermittent windshield wipers, an electric heated windshield and “the latest in sound systems.” Such luxuries!

Still, the S7 LM is very expensive at $1 million. Thankfully, Saleen has a solution in the form of its new S1, a 450-hp mid-engine sports car that’s going on sale for just $100,000 next summer.
